Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says he has no issue with Raheem Sterling and will maintain a good relationship with Manchester City-bound winger.

The Merseyside outfit accepted a bid of £49million for the 20-year-old on Sunday and he will complete a move to City after he undergoes a medical.

Sterling remained at home as the rest of the Liverpool squad departed for Thailand as they embark on a pre-season tour of Asia.

The England international has been edging for a move and turned down an improved contract offer from the Anfield side last term.

City, who are priced at 3.75 to win the Premier League in 2015-16, have to bring in English talent this summer to ensure they comply with the home-grown rule and Sterling has been a top target since the window opened.

Despite the less than orthodox way that Sterling has conducted himself in trying to secure an exit Rodgers insists that there are no personal issues.

The Northern believes that they part on good terms and will now look to move on and focus on the pre-season tour.

Rodgers said: “Raheem and I remain very strong in our relationship and have been right up until we left.

“There’s no issue, no problem. He will move on.”

The former Swansea boss has new signings James Milner, Danny Ings and Nathaniel Clyne in his squad for the pre-season engagements and is relishing the chance to see them in action.

He added: “Obviously we are very pleased with the players that we brought in. We wish to be much stronger and more competitive than the last season.

“And that will have to rely on everyone. At the start of the season in terms of this first week, the focus has been very strong.”
