Arsenal suffered another blow on the transfer front with the news that Newcastle have rejected a £12million offer for France midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has yet to make a move into the transfer market this summer, much to the frustration of the Arsenal fans, who made their feelings known during Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Wenger has been unable to wrap up a deal for Luis Suarez because Liverpool refuse to sell, while it looks as though any attempt to sign Wayne Rooney will be given equally short shrift from Manchester United.

Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo also turned down a move to the Emirates Stadium last week in favour of staying in Germany with Wolfsburg and Wenger realises time is running out ahead of the transfer deadline.

The Frenchman has now turned to Cabaye, but it will take a lot more than £12million if he is to lure his countryman away from St James’ Park.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has admitted he could be forced to sell one of his star players if a big offer comes in and Arsenal will have to double their bid to have a chance of doing a deal.

Cabaye is crucial to Newcastle’s plans of pushing much further up the Premier League table this season and they will not be willing to let him go without a fight.
