Gary Cahill says Chelsea are fully aware of what is needed to win back the Premier league title that was lost to Leicester City last season.
The west Londoners endured a dismal title defence and could only finish 10th after deciding to sack Jose Mourinho in the middle of last December.
The Blues have since appointed former Italy boss Antonio Conte and the new man in charge got off to a winning start at home to West Ham on Monday night An Eden Hazard penalty and an 89th-minute strike from Diego Costa were enough to give the hosts the win, having initially been pegged back by James Collins’ goal 13 minutes from time.
It was not the most complete performance from Chelsea but there is certainly a platform to build on and getting the three points was always the main aim.
Cahill, who played the full match alongside John Terry, knows the attitude of the team had to change for this term.
The England international said: “Last season was way short of the mark and everybody knows that, so we know what we have to do.
We will let everybody else do all the talking and just concentrate on ourselves.”
Much of the focus has been on the two Manchester clubs, with United, who are now managed by Mourinho, opening with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth while City narrowly defeated Sunderland 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
Conte’s men are back in league action on Saturday when they travel to Watford, who managed to scrape a 1-1 draw against Southampton in their first match.
The visitors are firm 1.73 favourites to pick up the win, the draw is priced at 3.60 while the Hornets are the outsiders at 4.75.
