Real Madrid have confirmed that winger Gareth Bale has signed a new five-year deal that will keep him in the Spanish capital until 2022.

The Welsh international joined the La Liga giants from Tottenham Hotspur on a six-year deal in 2013 for a then world record fee of £85million.

Bale, 27, joins team-mates Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in signing improved contracts with Zinedine Zidane’s outfit.

Bale has so far tallied 135 appearances in all competitions in three seasons, scoring 62 goals on the way to two Champions League titles and a King’s Cup in what has been a largely impressive stint in Spain.

While the La Liga crown has so far eluded him, Real currently sit on top of the table after ten games, two points clear of champions Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo cast aside any doubts over his recent form on Saturday as the 31-year-old fired a hat-trick in the 4-1 win away at Alaves.

It brought to 20 the number of different clubs against whom the Portuguese has notched hat-tricks in Madrid colours.

Real are now three clear of city rivals Atletico Madrid – 4-2 winners over Malaga at the weekend – and Sevilla, who dropped from second to fourth with a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijonm while the table-toppers are the only unbeaten side in Spain’s top-flight.

They will cross the city to face Atletico at the Vicente Calderon on November 19 before making the journey to the Nou Camp to face champions Barcelona on December 3. Real Madrid are 7.00 to beat Leganes 3-0 on Sunday.
