Reims striker Folarin Balogun is wondering why the Ligue 1 is not respected.

The Arsenal loanee has made a massive impact in the French top flight since his arrival, scoring 16 goals. Only Jonathan David and Kylian Mbappé have scored more goals this season than him in the league.

Speaking in an interview with Onze Mondial, the 21-year-old currently on loan at Stade de Reims from Arsenal said he doesn’t understand why the French top flight isn’t respected, adding that it’s competitive.

Balogun, eligible to play for the United States national team, may only stay in the team for this season.
The Will Still-led club have done well this season, but the club’s president has shown a sense of resignation about losing the player at the end of the season.

As things stand, this may be Balogun’s only season in France, but he stated that he has found the quality of football high.

Seemingly perplexed by the lack of respect towards the French division, Balogun said the league is tough.

Wondering why the league isn’t sometimes respected like it should be, especially on the internet, Balogun said it’s a tough division with many good and aggressive teams.

While noting that the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, is currently playing in the league, Balogun said PSG don’t win all of their matches.

Just last weekend, Balogun scored the only goal of the match against Monaco to set a new record.
The Englishman is now the youngest player to score at least 16 league goals in his first season in France since the 1960-1961 campaign.

Reims continued their long streak of unbeaten runs in the league as they occupied the 8th spot with five points separating them from the team occupying the Europa League spot, Rennes.
