Sergio Aguero is in danger of missing out on the Manchester derby at Old Trafford after he was hit with an FA charge for violent conduct.

The charge relates to an incident involving Aguero and West Ham’s Winston Reid during City’s 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The Argentine striker appeared to catch Reid with a flaying elbow in the 76th minute but the incident was missed by referee Andre Mariner and his assistants.

If found guilty, Aguero is likely to be issued with up to a three-game retrospective ban by the FA. Aguero has until 6pm on Wednesday August 31 to respond to the charge.

As his apparent indiscretion was not picked up the officials on the day, video evidence will now be reviewed by a three-man panel consisting of former elite match officials.

The three will review the footage independently before confirming whether or not they believe Aguero’s actions would have resulted in a red card had the officials on the day spotted it.

In order for the FA to take action, the panel must return a unanimous verdict.

Aguero has scored three times in the three Premier League games as Man City made the perfect start under new boss Pep Guardiola.

They will travel to Old Trafford to square off against a Red Devils team that has also collected maximum points so far under Jose Mourinho.

Any ban imposed on Aguero would rule him out of the Manchester derby on September 10. Man City are 3.10 to win that game, while hosts United are 2.25 and the draw is 3.25.
