Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is ready to end his sabbatical from the international game by making himself available for selection for the United States once again.

The 36-year-old has not featured for USA since he took a break from the national team after the 2014 World Cup, but he has now made himself available for Jurgen Klinsmann’s side once again.

The former Manchester United stopper is set to hold talks with the US coach after the national team’s participation in the Gold Cup and he admitted that the break has reignited his desire to return to the international fold.

He said: “We will speak again after that tournament finishes and I will make myself available for selection. We will see where we go from there. It has been a good break, but all it has done is really fuelled my fire. I have missed the boys, the competition and playing in front of the US fans.”

The Toffees’ number one is currently on pre-season duty with his club side and he is set to travel with the rest of the squad to Scotland where Roberto Martinez’ men will take on Scottish Premiership duo Hearts and Dundee.

The Blues recently returned from a pre-season tour in Singapore, but the veteran stopper is not concerned by all the travelling they are doing as he believes it is an integral part of preparing for a new campaign.

He continued: “It is what pre-season is all about. It’s all about working hard, doing a bit of travelling and building that team camaraderie, spirit and trust that you will need to carry you through the season.”

The Merseyside club kick off their Premier League campaign with a home match against newly promoted Watford on August 8 and they are the 1.75 favourites to begin the season with a win, with the Hornets on offer at 5.00 and the draw is available at 3.75.
