The Blues are now unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions and Martinez believes his side are fully deserving of their place in the draw after they put in a mature performances against the Championship high-flyers.
He said: “It was all about getting to the semi-finals. The fans came in big numbers and it is terrific for our football club. We knew we had to be very mature and control the game.”
The former Wigan boss was particularly pleased with how well his team responded following their disappointing 3-3 draw with Bournemouth at the weekend, when they threw away a 2-0 and 3-2 lead against the Cherries in the Premier League.
He continued: “We showed we learnt a lot from the weekend. Middlesbrough are a very, very good team and they defended really well. Our two goals were exceptional pieces of quality.”
