Liverpool defender Kolo Toure believes winning the Europa League will mean the club’s season has been a successful one.

The Reds will face fellow Premier League side Manchester United in the last 16 of the competition later this month, in what is their last realistic chance of claiming silverware from the campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten on penalties by Manchester City in the final of the Capital One Cup on Sunday and are currently in ninth position in the league standings, a full 18 points behind leaders Leicester.

Toure believes the club’s main focus should now be on Europe and he is adamant the players can still deliver a trophy.

He said: “Winning the Europa League can save the season and the Premier League is not done yet.”

The Ivorian believes it is crucial his side bounces back quickly from their disappointment in the Capital One Cup, as they have important league matches to come against Manchester City and Crystal Palace before they turn their attention back to the Europa League.

He added: “Of course we have plenty of games coming. We have another Premier League game which is very important. We need to digest this loss and then focus for the game because it will be tough.”

The first leg of their European tie with United will take place at Anfield on March 10 ahead of the return at Old Trafford seven days later.

Liverpool are available at 2.10 to secure a first-leg advantage in the tie, while the Red Devils are on offer at 3.60 and the draw is priced at 3.20.
