Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on winning the UEFA Europa League in an attempt to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Reds, 13.00 to win the Europa League, are currently eighth in the Premier League table and they are nine points behind the top four after 26 games.

Their chances of qualifying through the league look incredibly slim, but Klopp believes their Europa League campaign is their best chance of reaching Europe’s top competition.

Klopp’s side have struggled to maintain their league form but they breezed through their group in Europe.

Their reward is a trip to Germany to face Augsburg who are currently 14th in the Bundesliga. The former Borussia Dortmund boss is expected to name a strong starting eleven with his side not playing at the weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup.

Although Klopp has not overlooked the German side, he admits that his side have a great chance of winning the tournament as they try to qualify for the Champions League.

He told reporters: “A few teams in the world can think about winning the Europa League and I think we are one of these teams.

“We don’t have to say ‘we have no chance’ but if you look at the teams in the competition now, it is like a little Champions League.

“How many points in the league are we away from the Champions League? I think it is nine. So, yeah, at this moment I would say we have a better chance this way at the moment.”
