Antoine Griezmann will be happy to stay at Atletico Madrid as long as Diego Simeone is in charge.

The France international signed a new deal at Vicente Calderon this summer, but only after calling his manager to ask if he too would be staying at the club.

Griezmann, 25, says he has much more to learn from Simeone and that the manager’s presence is a big factor on his career right now.

The striker confessed that he will be content to stay at Atletico so long as his manager does likewise.

“I would only leave [Atletico] if Simeone was to go,” he told Telefoot.

“The only thing I wanted to know [before signing a new contract] was whether there was a possibility that Simeone would go to Paris Saint-Germain.

“Simeone is a very important person for me, and that is why I called him before renewing.”

Griezmann was also linked to Paris St-Germain this summer while he has been touted as a target for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho next summer.

He scored six times in seven appearances for France at Euro 2016 this summer as the host nation eventually lost to Portugal in the final in Paris.

He has been with Atletico since 2011 and says he is happy at the club and with his life in Spain. “I’m happy in Spain and I have a lot of things to learn from [Simeone],” he added.

Griezmann netted 34 times in all competitions last seasons at Atletico reached their second Champions League final in three seasons, only to once again lose out to city rivals Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid are 15.00 to win the Champions League this season.
