Burnley midfielder Steven Defour insists he will try to adapt his game and add quality to the club’s midfield as he tries to help them avoid relegation.

The Clarets, 1.80 to be relegated, came into the new campaign as the favourites to go down but Sean Dyche’s men have enjoyed a steady start.

Dyche’s men currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, after picking up four points so far.

A 2-0 win over Liverpool and a 1-1 draw against Hull have given them something to smile about and Defour is determined to help them this season.

The Belgium international joined for a club-record fee of £8million in August from Anderlecht and he is confident he can produce the goods to keep them in the top flight.

He told Sky Sports: “I just want to show my quality to help Burnley and to stay in the Premier League.

“He [Burnley boss Sean Dyche] asked me to get the ball, to take my responsibility and get the team playing.

It’s really a group, it’s really a team. It’s a team that really fits together and everybody is working for everybody.

“I need to adapt a little bit to the standards of the club and of the Premier League, but I’m getting stronger every week.

“The game never stops, there is no pausing. The first game we won against Liverpool and it’s a league where everyone can win and everyone can lose.

We just have to get the necessary points to stay in the league.”
