Sunderland boss David Moyes believes the club’s supporters do not want him to be sacked because they want to see stability at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have made the worst-ever start to a Premier League season, as they are currently eight points adrift of safety after collecting just two points from their opening 10 top-flight matches.

Speculation has been growing that Moyes could be close to getting the sack if results do not improve, but the former Manchester United boss is convinced he has the backing of the team’s supporters, as he believes they are craving stability.

“I think supporters want a period of stability,” he told reporters. “They want a period of success as well, which they have not been able to get.

The supporters have been brilliant.” Moyes will be hoping he can turn the Black Cats’ fortunes around sooner rather than later, starting by gaining a positive result when they travel to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.

“It would be great if we could win at Bournemouth [on Saturday],” he added. “So our job is to go and win. We have to have the attitude to go and win all the games.

“I’m not saying we haven’t before, but we will got there with a positive attitude. We have to find a way of getting points in games.”

Moyes’ men are available at 5.50 to secure their first three points of the season on the south coast, while the Cherries are priced at 1.62 and the draw is on offer at 4.00.
