Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has confirmed new loan signing Loic Remy faces up to two months on the sidelines after injuring his thigh in training.

The France international only moved to Selhurst Park on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea at the end of last month and he is yet to make his first-team debut for the Eagles.

That first appearance has now been delayed further after the 29-year-old suffered a thigh injury in training on Monday, with a disappointed Pardew confirming the frontman is now likely to be out of action for up to eight weeks.

He told reporters: “Remy’s got a tear in his thigh. It’s an area where recovery is difficult, so we have to be very, very careful. We’re so disappointed, because he’s looked great.

We have enough cover for now, but look forward to his return in seven to eight weeks.” Despite the injury blow, Pardew is confident he has enough quality within his squad to cope with Remy’s absence, with the likes of Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham at his disposal.

“He’s a player who would have really affected the first team, but I still have very, very good players here of course,” Pardew added.

Palace have made an indifferent start to the campaign, picking up just one point from their opening three league matches, and they will be looking to secure their first three points of the season when they travel to the Riverside Stadium to take on Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Eagles are on offer at 3.50 to win the match, while Boro are on offer at 2.25 and the draw is priced at 3.10.
