Barcelona boss Tata Martino watched Cesc Fabregas net a brace in 8-0 win against Santos and then reiterated he is not going to be sold to Manchester United.

United boss David Moyes has been chasing the 26-year-old Spain international midfielder throughout this ongoing transfer window, with two bids already rejected by the Catalan giants, and he has not yet given up hope of signing him.

Moyes may attempt to break the club’s transfer record with an improved bid of around £35million to try and secure the services of Fabregas before the window closes in just under a month’s time, but Barca appear resolute in their desire to keep him.

Having insisted the former Arsenal man was part of his plans when he was introduced to the Barca fans at his first press conference last week, new boss Martino has again stressed he is going nowhere.

Martino said: “I would prefer that Cesc stays with us. In fact I’ll be bold enough to say that he is going to stay. This isn’t me being over-confident – just what I hope will happen.”

Fabregas stepped off the bench to score a brace in Barca’s comfortable win against the Brazilian outfit on Friday night as they clinched the Gamper Trophy.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would be immediately interested if the La Liga giants gave any hint that they were willing to allow Fabregas to leave and the player himself has spoken previously of his love for the Gunners.
