Premier League champions Leicester City finally found their ‘spirit’ in gaining their first away point of the season at Tottenham, says manager Claudio Ranieri.

The Foxes had been beaten in all four away games so far in what has been an inauspicious start to the defence of the title they won in stunning fashion last season.

Things were not going to plan on Saturday as Spurs dominated the opening half and went in front on the stroke of half-time through Vincent Janssen’s penalty.

Ahmed Musa was the beneficiary of some slack play from Victor Wanyama shortly after the break, however, allowing the visitors to restore parity and Leicester battled gamely for a point against unbeaten Tottenham.

Given how well Mauricio Pochettino’s side had played in their previous home win against Manchester City, Ranieri was pleased with a point and the Italian felt it could be a pivotal moment in Leicester’s season.

“I am very pleased, we played very well against a big team,” Ranieri told Sky Sports. “The last match Spurs played at home they beat Man City 2-0 and we put in a fantastic performance with our Leicester spirit.”

While Ranieri is not anticipating any repeat of last season’s league-winning heroics, he is confident the battling determination still exists in his squad.

“It hasn’t been good so far because everybody wanted to find the spirit, but not together. But I saw our spirit (against Spurs),” he added.

“The spirit helped us last season and it must help us again, not to win the title but to fight.” Leicester welcome West Brom to the Kingpower Stadium in their next outing, a game the champions are 1.75 to win.
