Norwich head coach Daniel Farke says he is concerned Ben Godfrey has suffered a serious injury in pre-season. The Canaries are on a pre-season tour of Germany as they prepare for life back in the Premier League and drew 2-2 in their opening game against Arminia Bielfeld on Sunday.

However, it was the injury to Godfrey that worried Farke after the final whistle. He left the stadium on crutches and will have a scan on his injured ankle to assess the damage. The Canaries head coach said: “I am really concerned about Ben Godfrey.

He is in a lot of pain. He leaves the stadium on crutches and tomorrow we have a scan.” The injury problems aside Farke felt it was a good opening to pre-season, adding: “We expected a pretty tough test because Bielefeld is a club who will be challenging for the Bundesliga.

“They are close to the start of their season and their head coach was treating this like a league game in their performance and preparation. A tough test for our first one but the attitude was right. We didn’t just want to get used to a game.”

The squad returns to the UK next weekend and have away fixtures against Brentford and Luton before two games against teams from overseas back at Carrow Road, Atalanta and Toulouse the opposition.

Norwich get the new Premier League season underway with a trip to Merseyside on August 9 for a Friday night fixture at Anfield against last season’s league runners-up and Champions League winners Liverpool.

The Canaries are at 17.00 to start with a win while Liverpool are 1.17 and the draw 7.00. Their first home game back in the top flight comes a week later with Newcastle the visitors to Carrow Road.
