Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has seen his position heavily scrutinised in recent weeks and now captain Tom Cairney has stressed the Serbian retains the backing of the squad.

Jokanovic guided the Cottagers to promotion last season but they face a real fight to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Despite spending heavily during the summer, Fulham are rock bottom of the Premier League table following Monday’s defeat at relegation rivals Huddersfield.

Fulham are 1.73 to be relegated and Huddersfield are 1.50. There have been reports the club may decide a change in manager is required but Cairney says the players fully support their boss.

“The head coach has our backing completely,” Cairney told the Evening Standard.

“He turned it around for the club two-and-a-half years ago.

It’s down to us on the pitch to show him that.” Fulham face a tough trip to Liverpool at the weekend as they bid to end a run of six successive defeats during which they have conceded 18 goals and scored just three.

The Cottagers are 23.00 to claim a win and a draw is 10.00, with Liverpool priced at 2.50 with a -3 handicap.

After this Sunday’s game the Premier League takes a two-week break for the latest round of international fixtures.

Fulham then come up against another relegation rival in Southampton at Craven Cottage when the top flight resumes later in the month.
