Everton summer signing Ashley Williams hopes he gets the chance to compete in the Champions League in the coming years.
The defender made the switch to Goodison Park from Swansea earlier in the summer, following John Stones’ move to Manchester City.
Williams missed his new side’s 1-1 draw with Spurs in the opening round of fixtures, having been granted additional time off after helping Wales reach the Euro 2016 semi-finals.
The centre-half is expected to make a debut at West Brom on Saturday and Everton can be backed at 2.50 to claim all three points at the Hawthorns.
Williams says the experience of playing in a big tournament with Wales has left him hungry for more action on the grandest stages of world football, and now he hopes to help his club qualify for the Champions League and Wales reach the World Cup.
“I do look at football a little differently now having gone to the tournament and having gone so deep into it,” Williams told the Telegraph.
“Seeing players and what it is like at the highest level — you can’t go much further other than a World Cup or a Champions League. I want to be on the stage again at some point.
“Now I have tasted that and I’m not 21 so, if I can, in the last part of my career I would like to sample that kind of atmosphere again. It was unbelievable.
What we achieved will never be the same again even if we qualify for the World Cup because it was the first time. We were really proud of that.”
Everton are 11.00 to finish in the top four this season and earn a place in the Champions League 2017-18.
