Burnley chairman Mike Garlick says the club will do everything possible to ensure Michael Keane stays at Turf Moor.

The defender was a key component of the Lancashire side’s return to the Premier League last term and has continued his form this season, helping the Clarets to collect 14 points from their opening 11 games.

Keane’s exploits have seen him called up to the England squad and his performances have not gone unnoticed by other clubs.

Champions Leicester were rumoured to have offered £15m for the 23-year-old in the summer while Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is known to be a fan.

It has led to rumours of a January exit but with 18 months left on his contract, Garlick is anxious to ensure he stays at Turf Moor for as long as possible.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “We want him to stay for the long term, that’s for sure.” As well as keeping their best players, Garlick is also keen to add quality to Sean Dyche’s squad in January.

The Clarets signed Jeff Hendrick, Kamil Grosicki and Steven Defour in the summer and the chairman is keen to once again ensure they boost their ranks when the winter window opens.

“The main aim is to be stronger on February 1 than December 31,” Garlick added. “We are targeting a couple of quality additions, but it’s got to be quality and not quantity.”

Next up for the Clarets is West Brom away, a game they are 4.20 to win, with the draw 3.25 while the Baggies are priced at 1.91.
