Burnley captain Tom Heaton believes Andre Gray has the talent to succeed in the Premier League this season.

The forward fired the Clarets to the Championship title last term, netting 23 times following his club record move from Brentford in August.

Goals were an issue last time the Lancashire club were in the top flight during the 2014-15 campaign and their lack of action in the transfer market suggests there could be a repeat this time around.

It means Gray, who is 67.00 to top the Premier League scoring charts, will need to hit the ground running and will be hopeful of getting off the mark on Saturday at home against Swansea.

The Clarets are 2.40 to make a winning start on their top flight return, while the draw is 3.10 and the Swans 3.00.

Heaton says he has enjoyed what he has seen of Gray in pre-season and admits he is expecting big things from him this year.

The stopper has backed the 25-year-old to continue his form from last term and sees no reason why the former Luton man cannot be a success in the Premier League.

“He has the qualities to succeed in the Premier League,” Heaton said. “Last season he came in, settled in quickly, scored lots of different goals.

“On the back of a successful season he’s gone away and worked really hard, he’s in great shape. He’s come back in pre-season on fire.

“Everything’s in place for him to have a fantastic season. The sky’s the limit with his qualities.

He can cause defences a lot of problems and I’m backing him to score a lot of goals.”
