Burnley boss Sean Dyche won’t deviate from beliefs

Sean Dyche Burnley v Everton

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is adamant that he will not change his beliefs despite claiming that it does not work by trying to do things in the correct manner.

Dyche has always instructed his players not to harass referees during games, regardless of whether or not they feel a poor decision has been awarded against them.

However he feels it again worked against Burnley during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Everton when the Toffees’ goalscorer Kevin Mirallas was only booked for what looked like a shocking red-card tackle on George Boyd early in the second half.

The Clarets were already down to ten men after striker Ashley Barnes was sent off for two yellow cards in the first half.

Dyche had no complaints about that, but he also felt that referee Mike Jones wrongly awarded the hosts a 10th minute penalty – which Ross Barkley saw saved by Tom Heaton – because David Jones’ foul on Aaron Lennon was outside the box.

But he said afterwards: “Fans don’t want to see players surrounding referees.

“It is frustrating. You try and do things in the correct manner and it doesn’t work for you.

“But it is not a route we plan on going down.”

The defeat leaves Burnley at the bottom of the Premier League – two points from safety – and they face a six-pointer against resurgent relegation rivals Leicester City at Turf Moor next Saturday.

Burnley, who are 1.33 to be relegated, are marginal 2.50 favourites to defeat Leicester, while the Foxes are priced at 2.80 to win a fourth successive game and the draw is 3.20.
