Despite seeing his side crash out of the Capital One Cup, Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer was delighted with the performance of Ryan Nyambe on Tuesday night.
The Championship club were dumped out in the first round after being beaten 2-1 by Shrewsbury at Ewood Park.
Nyambe’s misplaced pass allowed Shrewsbury’s James Collins to open the scoring, but he showed great character throughout the game, according to Bowyer.
The defender’s deflected cross found the back of the net after a touch from Liam Lawrence but it was not enough as Tyrone Barnett scored the winner for the League One side just two minutes later.
Bowyer’s side have now lost two games on the bounce but he insisted that some players had impressed him in the defeat.
Seventeen-year-old Nyambe certainly caught the eye and Bowyer was quick to highlight his positive attitude.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Bowyer said: “You saw some potential in Ryan Nyambe. I thought he showed great character and a great temperament to keep going and set up our equaliser and I thought he grew into the game.
“He can take a hell of a lot out of the match. He was disappointed with the first goal, but you saw the way that he responded.
“He’s got some pace and power and it was a good game for him to come into and I thought did alright out of it and he is going to be a good player for us.”
