Bayern Munich have won the race to sign France international midfielder Corentin Tolisso from Lyon.

The 22-year-old, who can also operate at right-back, has signed a five-year contract with the reigning Bundesliga champions, who fought off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Juventus for his services.

Tolisso was one of Lyon’s star performers last season, netting 14 goals in all competitions, but he is now looking forward to the new challenge that awaits him at Bayern, a team he has described as one of the best in Europe.

“I had a wonderful time at Lyon, for which I was very grateful,” Tolisso told the Bayern website. “Now I’m looking forward to playing for one of the best clubs in Europe. I have set myself high goals with Bayern. Today is a great day for me.”

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is equally excited by the deal, admitting Tolisso was one of coach Carlo Ancelotti’s primary targets this summer. “We are very happy that we were able to sign this young and very interesting player despite strong competition from abroad,” Rummenigge said.

“Corentin Tolisso was the dream player for boss Carlo Ancelotti.” Tolisso becomes Bayern’s fourth new arrival of the summer, following in the footsteps of Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Sule, who joined from

Hoffenheim and Serge Gnabry, who has arrived from Werder Bremen. Bayern have won five Bundesliga titles on the spin and they are priced at 1.14 to secure another success next term.
