Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola wants midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger to commit his future to the Bundesliga champions.

However the former Barcelona boss says only the 30-year-old can make the final decision on where his future lies.

Schweinsteiger has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United to work under former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Despite the rumours, the World Cup winner suggested recently that he hopes to be part of Bayern’s historic bid to win four successive German titles next season.

Guardiola remains unsure of what the future holds for Schweinsteiger but he has urged the player to make up his mind and he says he would relish having him at Allianz-Arena again next season.

“If Schweinsteiger wants to stay here then that’s perfect. He’s a top player,” Guardiola said.

“Of course I am planning to work with Basti next season. Basti has to decide. I told him, the future depends on you.”

Schweinsteiger came through the youth ranks at Bayern and has spent 13 seasons at the German club, winning the Bundesliga title eight times and the Champions League in 2013.

Van Gaal would love to have the midfielder in England for his second season in charge at Old Trafford as he looks to build on a top-four finish by making the Red Devils title challengers once again.

The Dutchman has already signed compatriot Memphis Depay for £31million this summer and Schweinsteiger would be another marquee addition to his midfield options.

Manchester United are 6.00 to win the Premier League next season while they are 2.50 to outgun local rivals Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton in the Top Northwest Club betting.
