Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is keen to hold talks with Tom Cleverley regarding the on-loan Manchester United player’s long-term future.
The 25-year-old is currently in the middle of a season-long spell with the Midlands outfit and Lambert has praised the dynamic midfielder’s conduct and enthusiasm since arriving at Villa Park.
He said: “The great thing about Tom Cleverley is he has been brilliant here. His enthusiasm for the game and the way he plays the game is great.”
The England international, who won the last of his 13 international caps in 2013, has figured in 13 of Villa’s 17 league games so far this campaign.
Lambert had admitted he is keen to hold on to the former Wigan loanee, but emphasises there is no immediate rush to tie the player down to a permanent deal as he will be remaining at Villa Park until at least the end of the campaign.
Lambert added: “I have the option to buy in January but I have got him for a season-long loan anyway. I would definitely try but a lot will depend on finances.
“I will have a discussion with Tom and sit with him and see what he thinks. He is still a Manchester United player.”
The more immediate priority for the Villa boss is the upcoming busy festive period which begins with a Boxing Day trip to Swansea.
Villa are at 4.93 to take all three points back to the Midlands, with the Welsh outfit priced at 1.72. The draw is available at 3.50.
