Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says next season will be a big one for midfielder Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain after a disappointing spell with injury and loss of form.

The England international first burst onto the scene at Arsenal as an 18-year-old but he has to endure a number of injuries during his time at the club.

Oxlaide-Chamberlain was forced to miss the last two and a half months of the Premier League campaign due to injury and he also missed out on a place in the England squad for Euro 2016.

After a long break, the 22-year-old is now back in pre-season training with the Gunners and he scored in his team’s 3-1 win over MLS side Chivas on Sunday.

With the new season just a few weeks away, Wenger is adamant that he can fire this year as he tries to help his side win the Premier League, which you can back at odds of 7.00 with Dafabet.

He told reporters: “It’s a very important season for him. He’s been out for a long, long time. “He’s been injury prone.

He did not go to the European Championship with England, which he should have done, had he been fit. “That’s why I will be cautious with him.

I will play him for 45 minutes, then an hour, 70 minutes, and hope I can get him fit for the start of the season.

“When you look at him, it’s difficult to find something he hasn’t got. Maybe he doesn’t completely believe in himself how good he can be. That’s the final step for him.”
