Money is not a problem for Arsenal according to Arsene Wenger but finding the correct transfer targets remains a challenge.

Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka is the sole big-name arrival this summer at the Emirates Stadium so far.

With the new season now less than a week away, Wenger is said to be seeking cover in central defence as well as another striker to support Olivier Giroud.

French forward Giroud, along with Les Bleus teammate Laurent Koscielny, will miss Arsenal’s curtain raiser against Liverpool next weekend having being granted additional rest time after playing in last month’s Euro 2016 Final in Paris.

Wenger was criticised last summer after he managed to sign only goalkeeper Petr Cech and the Gunners boss once more finds himself under scrutiny for an apparent failure to strengthen his hand.

According to Wenger, the money is available but he is having a hard time pinning down the appropriate targets. “It’s not the prices, it’s the players,” he said.

“The money is never a problem if you have to pay what is requested.”

On the back of watching his side beat Norwegian outfit Viking FK 8-0 in a pre-season clash, Wenger outlined what he strives for in the transfer market.

If a player meets his criteria, Wenger insists that the asking price will be no deterrent for the Emirates club.

“The price of a player is down to four ingredients. One is the talent, two his age, three is how much you expect him to improve your team, and four his resale value,” he added.

“If he ticks all four boxes then the price is not that important.

You have to find the player.” Arsenal are 7.00 to win the Premier League this season, while they are 1.50 to once more finish in the top four.
