Manchester United record buy Angel Di Maria accepts he has not been “good enough” this season after his switch from Real Madrid.

United smashed the British transfer record to sign the Argentina international in a £59.7million deal last summer and initially he impressed in the Premier League.

However, the 27-year-old had struggled in recent months and has found himself out of the starting line-up of late.

Di Maria has managed just three goals in 26 appearances this term and the former Benfica forward admits he has to improve after a frustrating first season at Old Trafford.

“I’m not happy with my first year in England,” Di Maria told The Mirror. “I moved here from Real to win titles and this season has been very bad for me. I’m frustrated because I want to do better.

“The fans in England have not seen the real Di Maria. I know I can offer a better level. This year was not good enough.”

There has been speculation the Premier League giants could cash in on Di Maria in the summer, possibly to fund an ambitious move for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, but boss Louis van Gaal has indicated he has a future in Manchester.

The Dutchman has said the forward must “adapt to the philosophy” of the club but he is confident Di Maria can yet become a star for United.

Manchester United host Arsenal on Sunday and are 2.50 to secure all three points, while the visitors are 2.75 to come out on top.
