Adnan Januzaj says he is relishing the opportunity to get his career back on track following his recent loan move to Sunderland from Manchester United.

The 21-year-old burst on to the scene at Old Trafford in 2013 under the tutelage of current Black Cats boss David Moyes but fell out of favour with Louis van Gaal amid doubts over his attitude and application.

After struggling to make an impact following a temporary switch to Borussia Dortmund last term, he has now moved to the Stadium of Light for the season after being deemed surplus to requirements by United manager Jose Mourinho.

Januzaj made his debut off the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City and will now be hoping for a start in Sunday’s North East derby against Middlesbrough.

Despite his doubters, the attacking midfielder’s ability on the ball means he could be crucial if Sunderland are to avoid another brush with relegation.

The youngster admits he is already enjoying working under his mentor Moyes again and is pleased to have been given the chance to play regularly.

Januzaj said: “I am looking forward to playing my football – I came here to get games and play for this club because the manager gave me the opportunity to prove myself again.

“I am really happy to be here. We have a very good group, very nice lads, very good coaches and obviously the fans are unbelievable.” He added about Moyes: “Of course I look forward to working with him.

I always enjoyed playing in his team with the freedom and confidence he gives me. Once you have that confidence you can make things happen.”

The Black Cats are 2.50 to win on Sunday, the draw is 3.20 and Boro are priced at 3.00.
