Scott Quigg is relishing the prospect of making his featherweight debut on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua bill at Manchester Arena on December 10.
Quigg has not fought since suffering a broken draw during his points loss to Carl Frampton in February, a defeat that saw the 28-year-old lose his WBA super-bantamweight title.
The Brit has now decided to make the step-up in weight for his next fight, a move that keeps his hopes alive of facing the winner of WBA champion Frampton’s January rematch with Leo Santa Cruz, while IBF title holder Lee Selby is also a potential future opponent.
Before he can fight for a world title however, Quigg knows he must first prove his credentials at featherweight level, starting by beating a strong opponent on December 10.
“On December 10, I’ve got to go out there and make a statement and get people talking about me again,” he told Sky Sports.
“I’ve got the right platform to do it, Manchester Arena, massive bill and my goal is to go out there and steal the show.
Put in a performance where people are talking about me and then start linking me with those names again.”
An opponent has yet to be confirmed for Quigg, although the Manchester fighter is hopeful a ‘big name’ star will be named for the bout later this week.
“I’ve been speaking with Eddie Hearn,” Quigg confirmed. “We’re trying to get the biggest fight possible at featherweight.
I know all the world champions are tied up at the minute, but obviously I need to get a good win under my belt, so we want a big name.
“We’re looking at a few names and hopefully I will be speaking with Eddie later on today and hopefully something will be finalised in the next couple of days.”
