Lennox Lewis says David Price has what it takes to exact revenge on American Tony Thompson and show the defeat back in February was a fluke.

Price and Thompson are set for a rematch at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday and Lewis is backing the 29-year-old to bounce back from his first career defeat.

The loss was a huge blow to Price’s hopes of fighting for a world title this year, but he aims to get back on track this weekend.

Former world heavyweight champion Lewis has been mentoring Price over the last few months and says the Liverpudlian is in great shape physically and mentally going into the fight.

“He’s in this fight for redemption. He wants to prove to the world this was just a fluke,” Lewis revealed. “And I think he has got the mental capacity to do that. He’s very confident and focussed right now.”

Price himself admits the fight is a pivotal moment in his career and believes victory will give him the confidence to go on to bigger and better things.

Price suffered a second-round knockout the last time the two went head-to-head, but the 6ft 8in fighter believes he will be stronger for it if he can come through on Saturday.

“It’s make-or-break time, isn’t it?” Price said. “If I get into the ring and do what I’m supposed to do, and what I am capable of doing, it’s going to make me.

“And it can give me the belief I can overcome big setbacks and make sure they don’t happen again.”
