Chris Eubank Jnr has confirmed he has had to vacate his British middleweight belt after pulling out of his fight against Tommy Langford due to injury.

Eubank Jnr was expected to defend the title for a second time in Cardiff on October 22 but his camp have now confirmed he has had to withdraw after consulting medical advice.

The hard-hitting middleweight has suffered a “severe injury” to his elbow in sparring, which could keep him out of the ring for the next few months.

His injury could see him miss out on a clash with Gennady Golovkin, although reports claim the Brit turned down the fight earlier this year and chose to face Langford instead.

Eubank Jnr was hoping to win the British belt outright before moving onto world honours but he will now go back to the drawing board after his latest setback.

Confirming the problem, his camp released a statement to World Boxing News.

It read: “Chris Eubank Jnr suffered a severe injury sparring against a 14-stone opponent two days ago.

The injury was assessed and confirmed by a Doctor on Friday 16th September, who works with the British Boxing Board of Control.

“The severe injury to Chris Jnr’s elbow follows an ongoing injury which has been a recurring issue for the last 18 months.

“This allows Chris Eubank Jnr, and his management, the opportunity to relinquish the title which provides all contenders the right to earn a living and fight amongst their equal calibre of competitors.”
