Lakers guard Danny Green knows that his team’s fans are not happy with his performance last season. Green signed with the Lakers as a free agent during the offseason to help lure his former Spurs and Raptors teammate Kawhi Leonard. That plan eventually failed and Leonard joined the Clippers.

Green averaged 8.0 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 36.7 percent from distance in 24.8 minutes over 68 games last season. He also struggled in the playoffs, averaging just 8.0 points and making just 33.9 percent of his 3-point shots in 25.0 minutes over 21 games. The third-highest paid player on the Lakers, Green clearly underperformed and did not justify his high salary.

“It’s not the first time I have heard it, it won’t be the last time,” Green said about the trade rumors on his Inside the Green Room podcast. “I remember the first time I heard a trade rumor, I was in San Antonio, it might have been my second or third year. It was, ‘They’re talking about trade rumors with you, you must have made it.’ It’s been almost 10 years now me hearing about trade rumors. But you ignore the noise. If it happens, it happens.” 

Danny Green also explained what doomed the Clippers last season: “I think the basketball Gods will humble you if you don’t play the game the right way or do the right thing,” Green explained on the Real Ones Podcast. “I mean, a lot of people say speak things into existence – which is cool I like that, you shouldn’t be as cocky or because a lot of times it’s going to go the opposite way, you know. Someway somehow, you know, things ironically it’s gonna turn out the way opposite of you talking sh**.”
