Boston Celtics small forward Jae Crowder believes his side are a team on the up and has lofty ambitions for the franchise ahead of the next NBA season.
Having made the switch from the Dallas Mavericks last year, in a deal that saw Rajon Rondo move the other way, many thought the 25-year-old from Georgia was taking a step backwards.
However Crowder clearly has plenty of faith in the Celtics, as he has decided to put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with a $35million extension.
It is a big sign of commitment from Crowder who says he has been in talks with Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and coach Brad Stevens.
The former Maverick star has been reassured the franchise is going in the right direction, as they look to secure their 18th NBA Championship title next season.
Crowder was quoted by ESPN, saying: “I don’t think we’re going to go backward.
“I think we’re in the right direction, moving forward. That’s to win playoff games, like Danny said, and we didn’t do that last year.
“So that’s our next goal. We’re taking steps. Of course we want Banner 18, but at the same time we have to win a playoff game first before we get to Banner 18. I think we’re moving in the right direction.”
Crowder and the Celtics are 81.00 to win the NBA Championship next season, while Cleveland Cavaliers are the 3.80 favourites to be crowned champions.
