Arsene Wenger says he is trying to bolster his Arsenal squad with new players but believes it is also important to focus on his current squad.

It has been a frustrating summer so far for the Gunners boss as his attempts to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool have failed, while he has also struggled to strengthen other areas of the team.

However the Frenchman says he will continue to plug away in the hope he will eventually land his top targets before the transfer window closes on September 2nd.

Another bid is expected to go in for Suarez, while reports also claim that Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo is high on his list of targets and could sign before the week is out.

Wenger is refusing to name names but assured fans that he is working hard to bring players in, while at the same time making sure his current squad are ready for the big kick-off this weekend.

“We are in the transfer market and we try still to strengthen our squad,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“It’s important as well now to focus on the squad who are already at the club and that you focus on the competition, not only on the transfer market.”

Wenger has been armed with his biggest transfer kitty yet and will be working hard to spend it as he attempts to build a squad capable of winning some silverware this season.
