Atletico Madrid have denied claims defender Lucas Hernandez is set to join Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.

Spanish publication Marca reported that Bayern were ready to trigger Hernandez’s 80million euros release clause to seal a deal in the winter window.

However, Los Colchoneros have released a statement rejecting those claims and they say the French World Cup winner will not be leaving Madrid in the New Year.

The statement read: “Following the story published by the Marca newspaper on an alleged deal between Bayern Munich and our player Lucas Hernandez, according to which the German club is to trigger the Frenchman’s buyout clause in the January window, Atletico de Madrid wishes to state that, in conversation with our club, Lucas Hernandez has denied any deal with Bayern Munich and also any intention to exit our club.

“Additionally the excellent relationship between Atletico de Madrid and the German club has led Bayern Munich to deny said operation during an conversation between officials of both clubs.”

Hernandez, 22, came through the Atleti youth system and has made 17 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit so far this season.

Atletico Madrid have been drawn against Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League and are 21.00 to win the tournament outright.

Bayern face last year’s runners-up Liverpool in the first knockout round and the German outfit are 13.00 to win Europe’s top prize.
