Spain captain Iker Casillas believes a third straight European Championship success would be an ‘extraordinary’ achievement.

The Red Fury achieved glory in the competition in both 2008 and 2012, making them the only side since the tournament’s inception in 1960 to successfully defend their crown.

Vicente del Bosque’s team are now targeting an unprecedented third success on the bounce in France this summer and goalkeeper Casillas believes they have a chance.

He said: “It would be extraordinary to lift a third trophy. It is difficult but not impossible.”

The Porto star will battle it out for the number one jersey at Euro 2016 with Manchester United stopper David de Gea, with Spain set to face the Czech Republic, Turkey and Croatia in Group D.

Casillas knows it will not be easy for his side and is expecting the likes of France, Germany, Italy and group rivals Croatia to challenge for the title.

He added: “France I like. You have to respect Italy. Germany are world champions! Croatia can be a surprise.”

Spain kick-off their campaign when they take on the Czech Republic at the Stadium Municipal in Toulouse on June 13.

The defending champions are available at 1.50 begin the tournament with a victory, while the Czechs are 6.00 and the draw is 3.75.
