The 66-year-old was last involved in football as the manager at St James’ Park during the 2008/09 season, a spell that threw up a number of controversial moments and lasted just under a year. Kinnear was eventually relieved of his duties when he suffered a heart attack prior to a Premier League fixture with West Brom. He was subsequently replaced by Chris Hughton and never returned to the post. The former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest boss gave a number of interviews last week confirming he would be heading back to the north east-outfit, although this was still to be confirmed by the club.
