England boss Gareth Southgate says he sees Raheem Sterling as one of the leaders within his squad.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the current Three Lions skipper and Southgate has no intention of
handing the armband to anyone else, but he feels it is important to have a number of leaders in his side and he views 24-year-old Sterling as one of his key men both on and off the pitch.

“We’ve had three or four players captaining the team, and Raheem is developing lots of the qualities those guys have,” Southgate told reporters.

“He has those qualities. “It’s difficult to talk about a potential captain when the captain [Kane] is in the hotel waiting to go out for dinner but, in terms of his personal qualities, he’s shown some outstanding personal qualities.”

England began their Euro 2020 qualification campaign in style on Friday night as they dismantled the Czech Republic 5-0, with Manchester City star Sterling scoring his first hat-trick for the senior side.

Kane was also on target as he converted a penalty, which was won by Sterling, with Czech defender Tomas Kalas scoring an own goal late on.

The Three Lions are back in action on Monday night when they head to Montenegro and Sterling is available at 5.00 to open the scoring, while England are 29.00 to secure another 5-0 victory.

England are 7.00 to win Euro 2020 outright, behind only France at 4.50 and Spain at 6.50 in the betting.
